C M Ross Ltd was founded in 1882, and operated in The Square 1883-1959. It was sold in 1959, but remained as a department store, under Milne and Choyce, DIC and Arthur Barnetts until 1991 when it was bought by the Palmerston North City Council and converted into the City Library, opened 1996.
