“Spring Time In Pahiatua”
- Description
-
This image was published in the September 17th 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper.
The short article read: “’Cor, Mum, look at that!’ three-year-old Nicola Donald of Pahiatua, seems to be saying. Our cameraman caught her at Pahiatua's annual spring flower show in the Pahiatua Town Hall last week. The show was held on Monday and Tuesday by the Pahiatua Chrysanthemum and Garden Club. The theme for the show was ‘flights of fantasy’.
Judges proclaimed the standard of flowers entered as very good. Cut flower entries were up on last year's entry, while the daffodil entry was a little down. The judge of the cut flower section was Mrs J. Т. Herbert, while Mr F. W. Poole judged the daffodil section.
Mr V. D. McGill cleaned up most of the major prizes this year, taking out the championship trophy, the points trophy for three complete sections (Mr H. J. Angelini won the other section), as well as taking the most points in the daffodil ‘open’ section. Mrs V. Skilton won the most points in the cut flowers open section. Mrs Linda Bourke won the novice daffodil section, while the most outstanding piece of floral art was exhibited by Mrs C. Elliott. Joanne Elliott won the most points in the children's section.
The presentations of the trophies and awards were to be made by the club's president, Mr Angelini, on Tuesday night.”
