Description

This photograph was taken at a metal pit on or adjacent to Mr Short's Estate on Pararorangi Road, near Waituna West. The metal from this pit was used to metal Parorangi Road and other roads from Kinsted County Council. The men in the photograph are, from left: Mr Tom Murray (from Awahuri, owner and driver of the team), Mr Charlie Pilcher (?), Mr Len Eggers (with elbow on shovel), Mr Fred Eggers (in foreground - father of Len Eggers), Mr Tom Mason (who had the contract for metalling the road). At the top of the photograph is another man, whose identity is unknown.
