Arthur Edward Russell (d.1924)was a farmer at Te Matai near Ashhurst, outside of Palmerston North,1884-1900. where he lived with . In 1901 he, his wife Ethel (d.1949) and four children, moved to Riverbank Road, Fitzherbert West, where a large house known as ‘Whare Rata’ was constructed. Today ‘Wharerata' is owned by Massey University and used as a function centre.
