This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 4th December 1965 "They all gasped when he was unveiled. Everyone pressed forward for a better look as soon as the wraps fell away. Then five-year-old Joanne Looney posted the first letter to the mythical man at the North Pole, and Palmerston North officially had a new Santa Claus."
