Description

George William Shailer (c1846-1918), a "tall, well built man, thirty four years of age...". This photograph was taken in his home town of Brentford, London, before he left for New Zealand. A colonial world slowly changed before his eyes. For over a decade, he recorded this crucial change through the eye of a camera. Saga in Sepia, p 13
