“For Joy's A Jolly Good Fellow”
- Description
-
This image was published in the September 3rd 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper with the caption: “Joy Henry – the first Fellow of her kind.”
An excerpt from the article read: “Joy Henry is a Fellow - and a woman. She's the first woman to be made a Fellow of the New Zealand Professional Photographers Association. She's also one of only three Fellows in the association who've gained the rare award without being made an Associate first. Mrs Henry attended the association's conference in Palmerston North and was a little reluctant to talk about her award when the "Tribune" spoke to her. But she did admit that it was the highest qualification that anyone could gain in the association. "It means you have reached a standard, and you gain far more respect for your skills," she said.”
“She works work her husband's photography studio in Auckland, specialising in child portraiture and photographing elderly people. She hopes to open her own studio, eventually, when her two children are old enough to enable her to do so.”
This image forms part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
