This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 2 July, 1959. "Last evening in the Astoria Ballroom eight debutantes made their curtsies to Mr C. S. Thomas, the patron of the Dominion Highland Pipe Bands' Association. Showing from the left are (standing): Misses J. Richardson (Pahiatua), J. Timmins, D. Foote and L. Sutherland. Seated: Misses D. Jackson, A. Douglas (Wanganui), J. Charman, N. Birchall, Kathryn Smith (flowergirl) and Ian Carman (page)."
