William Wood (1854-1943) was Mayor of Palmerston North 1895-1899 and 1901-1903, and Member of Parliament for Palmerston North from 1902-1908. Mrs Wood was involved in many community projects including beautifying the Square and setting up Palmerston North's first old peoples home (now Awapuni Hospitial). They had four sons and four daughters. From left to right: Mr Wood of Wellington (son); William Wood; Mrs William Wood; Mrs Herbert Wood (daughter-in-law); Herbert Wood (son).
