William Wood (1854-1943) was Mayor of Palmerston North 1895-1899 and 1901-1903, and Member of Parliament for Palmerston North from 1902-1908. Mrs Wood was involved in many community projects including beautifying the Square and setting up Palmerston North's first old peoples home (now Awapuni Hospitial).
