Geoffrey Tremaine was the 19th Mayor of Palmerston North, from 1947-56. The other portion of this photograph shows Arthur Hopwood handing a cheque for 50,000 pounds, to Geoffrey Tremaine to establish the Arthur Hopwood Charitable Trust. This trust distributes money annually to charitable organisations in the Palmerston North and Blenheim districts.
