These images were taken for the October 8th, 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, the first of which was published with the caption: “Karen Seebeck - the Konigan Queen for Palmerston North's annual Oktoberfest, which was held in the city last night. Karen, 19, was chosen from seven contestants for the title. She was picked at a "warm up" mini beer festival, held in preparation for the big occasion. The mini-festival held in Palmerston North's Masonic Hotel on Wednesday night. Karen is the assistant secretary to the general manager of the PDC in Palmerston North. Last night's beer festival, organised by the Palmerston North Brass Band, was held in the Barber Hall and attracted about 1,000 people. It was the band's eighth annual beer festival.”
