Journalist Tina White's weekly "Memory Lane" article in the Manawatū Standard. The life and career of Madame Lauri Alwyn, women's health advocate. Madame Alwyn visited Palmerston North in May 1936 and presented a number of lifestyle, health and fitness lectures. These inspired the formation of the Palmerston North Alwyn Physical Culture Club. Membership rose to over 100 in the 1960s when there were additional branches in Ashhurst, Shannon and Sanson. The club had regular contact with Madame Alwyn, who lived overseas, until she died in 1971. Club members continued to meet until 2003.
