The Wellington Manawatu Railway Company Limited constructed the rail line between Wellington and Palmerston, Which opened in 1886. The company ran the line until they sold it to the Government in 1908.

Also contains a sketch map of New Zealand showing the railway systems. the map contains wider information on the ownership and use of land in the area.
