John McCaw states that in 1902 Feilding claimed a North Island record for the number of sheep yarded at a sale - 42,000. This was not eclipsed until the 1937 sale of over 50,000 sheep.

John McCaw appears in this 1974 Spectrum radio documentary about the Feilding saleyards, held by Nga Taonga - https://www.ngataonga.org.nz/collections/catalogue/catalogue-item?record_id=218046
