The information for this image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 19th February 1992.
"The beat of the drums filled the night air in the secluded Kahuterawa Valley last night as 25 people drummed from 9 pm to 9 am today in a quest for healing energy. One organizer, astrologer Steve Hill, said the quest was similar to the healing drumming practised by the ancient Red Indian medicine men, Sharman.
The time was chosen by Palmerston North jazz group Free Fusion -- whose members include a company director, university lecturer, a photographer and musicians -- because the astrological signs were right with the full moon moving into Aquarius. "This embodies human ideals, communication, goodwill and peace to all. The 12-hour drumming was an amazing experience, raising an incredible energy in Sharmanistic [sic] style," Mr Hill said."
