- Description
This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 3rd December 1965 "The wreck of the barque Fusilier as she lies between the Turakina and Rangitikei Beaches. The tall mass of the ship were for years a survey point, but now they have collapsed through age and rust, the last one quite recently. On the top of the picture the build-up of sand can be seen. There the hill of the Fusilier is now lying was once high water mark. They Fusilier was beached during a gale in 1878 and two unsuccessful attempts were made to refloat the vessel."
