Description

Alan and Mona Wong opened a shop on their farm in 1980. They specialised in celery because a deep bore on thier land provided sufficient water for this thirsty crop. During the second half of the twentieth century, several members of the Manawatū Chinese community maintained market gardens in the Aokautere area, including the Kan, Chew, Leong, Tsao and Wong families.
This photograph was reproduced in the book Fitzherbert East Aokautere: School and District 1889-1989 (1989).
