Description

James Linton (1839-1907) was Mayor of Palmerston North 1879-1882 and 1884-1885, and Borough Councillor three times between 1877-1889. Linton was born in Scotland and arrived in New Zealand in 1860, via Australia. In 1871 he settled in Palmerston North, built the first house in Terrace End, and became a Land and Commission Agent. He was married to Sarah Anne and had thirteen children.
