William Plunket, 5th Baron Plunket was a former Governor of New Zealand (1906-1909). He was also a freemason and Grand Master of New Zealand's Grand Lodge. Inscription on front of the original photo reads "The Mayor and Council of Palmerston North in Remembrance of many courtesies from H. E. Lord Plunket, G.C.Mg.K.C.V.O." The photo was probably donated 1910-1911 after a period of residence in Palmerston North.
