The homestead of the Oroua Downs Estate was situated on the main highway between Himatangi corner and Sanson. The house was built about 1879 for the Hon. Robert Campbell and was occupied by Mr John MacLennan, Manager, and his family. MacLennan purchased the homestead block when the estate was subdivided in 1890, but died in 1891. The Homestead burnt down c1932.
