This image is believed to have been taken by Palmerston North Engineer Frank (Frances Leslie) Berry.
Possibly taken from the Palace Theatre in George Street, this image depicts a view down Broadway with Coleman Place in the foreground.
At left, the three-storied brick Clarendon Hotel is visible which was constructed in 1904 after fire had destroyed the earlier wooden hotel. In 1927 the license was transferred to the newly constructed Carlton hotel in Cuba Street and the building was converted into shops and offices.
At right is the Union Bank of Australasia, built 1910-1911 on the corner of The Square and Coleman Place, still standing as at 2025.
