Alma Rumsey was a member of the Palmerston North Operatic Society. Her stage career began in England at the age of 6 when she toured the Moss Empire circuit with her father who was the musical director. Afterwards. she joined a juvenile troupe of dancers. During the second World War, she joined the Royal Air Force and entertained the troops in her spare time. Mrs Rumsey married a New Zealand serviceman from Palmerston North and came here in 1946. The first show she appeared in for the Palmerston North Operatic Society was "The Vagabond King" in 1947. Article in Manawatu Standard 23 October 1974.
