  • "Gargle Parade" - postcard from Henry Ward
Description

A group of about 25 soldiers with enamel mugs. This postcard was sent by Henry Ward, who served with the New Zealand Medical Corps, No. 3 Field Ambulance, from March 1917 to March 1919. The message reads: "This is some of our section at Gargle Parade which we have every few days. The weather is very warm and fine now. They only drill us for about half an hour at a time now and we sit under trees of on the grandstand and have lectures between times. Our section is giving a concert tonight in the YMCA room. I don’t think any of the artists will be specially good. Twenty of the men went to a military funeral in Palmerston yesterday and had to slow march for a few miles and got very tired and our Douglas played the Last Post and was congratulated for it. They play very well. With best love to all. Hope to be home in about 3 weeks
29/11/17."
