The Gorge Hotel was built for Thomas and Mary Lowes as an accommodation house. It was situated on top of the terrace opposite Ashhurst Domain, on the southwest side of the road leading from Ashhurst to the bridge over the Manawatū River. The building later burned down after it had been converted into a house.
