More Info →- Description
-
This building was originally occupied by S T Hunt & Co., Ashhurst, Pohingina Butchers. In 1904, C Trass took it over and turned it into a bakers and confectioners. Mr Fred Reid was a baker there for many years. The name Judd is also associated with owning the bakery, which closed sometime in the mid 1950s. The building remained empty until 1965 when it was converted into sleeping quarters for the Rope Constructions gang building Ashhurst Bridge. The building was demolished around 1980 and a new building moved onto the site.
The horse and gig of Len Stevens, a local drover, is part in front of the building. A gig is a light, two-wheeled open carriage with large wheels, a forward facing seat, and shafts for a single horse.
