An excerpt from the article by Stephen Stewart read: “Palmerston North's first sex shop opens tomorrow. Situated in George Street, in the premises formerly occupied by the Dee Gee Saddlery, the Venus Shop will be the third established by its Wellington owner. He opened his first shop in Wellington more than three years ago, and his second in Christchurch two years ago. He's brought his unusual wares to Palmerston North because he says his Wellington shop gets a significant amount of mail orders from here. And many of the customers at his Wellington shop have asked him to open a shop in Palmerston North, he says. The businessman says there's nothing "dirty" about sex shops like his. All the books and sex aids available at his shops are approved by the police and customs, he said. "After three and a half years in the trade, you either get a good name or a bad name," he went on. "Everybody has the idea that sex shops are degrading. But in the last three and a half years I've had no complaints, and many a compliment."
