This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 28 February, 1964. "At the Queen Elizabeth Technical College Athletics Sports on Wednesday, the colourful event known as the "Chariot race" held more significance than usual, in that the four "princesses", contenders in the school's queen carnival took their places in the chariots. Wearing leis they are, from the left, Princess Noeline (Arawa), Princess Christine (Ngapuhi), Princess Jan (Rangitane) and Princess Aorangi (Tainui)."
