“Major Progress On $250,000 Park Plan”
- Description
-
These images were taken for the May 7th, 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, the first of which was published with the caption “Looking pleased at the signing of the McGreevy Park project agreement are Mr Graham Haines (left), and Mr John Ensing, respectively the club's president and secretary.
“The Palmerston [North] North End Associated Football Club is in the final stages of getting the land it wants for a $250,000 soccer park. On Monday members of the club’s executive signed an agreement for purchase of the five-hectare site, which will be known as McGreevy Park. Sited between Vogel Stret and Ruahine Street, the park will eventually cater for the needs of the club’s 22 soccer teams. It will take between five and 10 years to fully develop, the club’s publicity officer, Mrs Joan Cornford, told the Tribune. Now that the club's executive has signed the agreement of purchase, the board of the Brick and Pipe Company Limited will be asked to sign on behalf of their company. Then the agreement will be forwarded to the Land Transfer Office in Wellington, Mrs Cornford said.”
These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
