The Puketotara Estate was located on the western bank of the Oroua River in the vicinity of its junction with the Manawatu River. The Pascal brothers, Claud and John, emigrated to New Zealand from France. They were involved in the flax industry c. 1890 - 1906. The image shows employees and friends of Pascal Brothers at Puketotara Station, 1886, entitled ‘Batchelors’ Party’. All people are unidentified, but it is thought that it includes Claud and John Pascal. The pou are from the old Puketotara Pa and were used at the gateway to the station
