This photograph shows the 20 inch sod turned by a heavy swamp plough on Mr Joseph Beale’s property near Palmerston North. The locality is either the east bank of the Manawatu River at Fitzherbert or the west bank at Longburn. The men are identified from left: Mr Joseph Beale, Mr Bruce Beale (son of Joseph), Unknown, Mr Albert Beale (son of Joseph).
