This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 13 April, 1959. "Spaciousness and colour give the modern touch to the newly-reorganised free lending department of the Palmerston North Public Library. In the foreground of this photograph of portion of the downstairs rooms are the card-index cabinets and inquiry desk. At the far end of the room is the book rental department."
