This image was published in the September 24th 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper.
An excerpt from the article read: “News about the future of Pahiatua's historic courthouse was to have been available about now-but the building's fate is as obscure as ever. So says the Justice Department's assistant secretary (courts division) in Wellington, E. M. Comerford. What's going to happen to the court house, which is in a dilapidated condition, was expected to be one of the findings of the Royal Commission on the Courts. At the beginning of last year fears were voiced in Pahiatua that the old courthouse was being run down with a view to closure. The commission released the result of two year deliberations about the future of New Zealand's courts system earlier this month, and it was expected that one of its recommendations would give a direction to the future of the Pahiatua Courthouse. ’But the commission has left the matter of Pahiatua's courthouse very much in abeyance,’”
