  • "Afternoon Tea, at Bivouac and Trench Building" - Awapuni Military Camp

A group of about 30 recruits pose with enamel cups, the track of the Awapuni Racecourse is visible in the background. This was home to one of New Zealand’s largest training camps in World War One, and was the sole location for training the New Zealand Medical Corps staff. The inscription on the reverse reads: "Afternoon tea, at bivouac and trench building. Notice the use of rush roofs of two bivouacs in rear at right of group.
I thought you would like to see this. Harry
Awapuni Sept 1918."
