“Anzac Day - Not Just A Holiday”
- Description
-
This image was published in the April 30th, 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper with the caption “CANON TALBOT”
An excerpt from the article read: “About 250 people attended the dawn parade at the Palmerston North cenotaph on Anzac Day. Canon J. G. Talbot addressed the crowd, and the following is the text of his speech (the lesson was read by Dr G. Cumming): "The theme of this short talk is our heritage. This phrase has become familiar to us as has the slogan used to promote the worthy plan to build a museum at Waiouru to contain samples of the machines, weapons, uniforms, badges, flags and other accoutrements used in the wars that New Zealand has been engaged in in her short history. In this we follow the example of the other members of the ANZAС family who have built in Canberra a magnificent war memorial to preserve their heritage which is closely linked with ours…”
