These men were employed by New Zealand Laykold Ltd, of Wellington, who had the contract to construct a road between Paraparaumu township and the beach. The man on the left is Jimmy Bain and the man on the right is unidentified. This firm owned a bitumen factory in Wellington and employed Mr L C Eggers (photographer) as overseer for the contract.
