The first image in this pair was taken for a story published in the Manawatū Standard on 11th December 1973.
"Casting cares of the fuel shortage to the winds, Father Christmas abandoned his reindeer and sleigh for a fire engine in Feilding on Saturday."
The special occasion was the annual Christmas party for the children of Feilding Fire Brigade members. Two fire engines collected children from their homes and drove them to the park at the Makino swimming pool complex. After a lolly scramble, ice creams and a movie at the Civic Centre, the children had a meal at the fire station before being returned home.
"Some of the children ride on the fire engine with Father Christmas."
