Dear Miss Warburton
I wonder if I made it perfectly
clear to the Palmerston people about the position
of the members of the Red + & Order of St. John. Before
I started forth on my organising I had a chat
with Capt. Galway, Lady Eliott & Lady Myers.
We agreed that in an emergency the W.W.S.A
had no authority over the Red + & St. John’s
Ambulance people. They were called up by
the department of health but in order to get
as complete a record as possible of all willing
workers & where they were the three Heads were
quite willing that their members should
sign our cards well marking in Red +
or St. John’s Ambulance on the line
“State if member of any other organisation [&c?].” We

would then have a record not to know what
to do with these people but where to leave them
for their own valuable work.
It is highly desirable that all willing
British subjects to sign our cards as no
other organisation is keeping a complete
record – lots have their own society or
association enrolled but in an emergency
is it our job to be able to tell the
military authorities or the govt. whichever
be in command just what everybody
is doing or willing to do.
This is very rambling but hope you
can understand it.
