WAR SERVICE AUXILIARY.
The Government nominations for
three members to sit on the Palmerston
North District Committee of the
Womens War Service Auxiliary were
announced last evening at the first
meeting of the committee. They are
Mrs R. K. Brown, Mrs S.G. Northey,
and Miss Mavis Cooksley, who have
been appointed by the Minister of
National Service (Hon. R. Semple),
and a welcome was extended to them.
The other nine members, elected at a
meeting of delegates from womens
organisations, are: Mesdames C. Frey-
berg, W. F. Field, S.J. Parkes, L.
Bale, J. Walker, A. A. Langley, Misses
C. Warburton and M. Grant, who were
present last evening, and Mrs J. H.
Whyte, from whom there was an apol-
ogy for absence. The convener (Miss
Grant) read a letter to the meeting
from Mrs P. Fraser, chairman of the
central executive, and explained that
the purpose of the meeting was first
to elect its officers. She called for
nominations for a chairman, and Miss
C. Warburton was unanimously elected.
Mrs J. Walker was elected vice-
chairman; Miss Grant, secretary; and
Miss Mavis Cooksley, assistant secret-
ary. Arrangements were discussed for
office accommodation. It was resolved
to circularise organisations as directed
from the central executive and to call
a general meeting. It was stressed that
registrations would be individual, the
