“Joe Is First - Twice”

This image was published in the June 11th 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper.
The short article read: “Joe Greening of Palmerston North has just been elected to the dominion executive of the New Zealand Savage Orphans and Kindred Clubs - and it's only the second time in the last 21 years that a city man has had this honour. The first occasion was in 1973-74 - when the man elected was again Mr Greening. It was a great honour to be elected to the post once, he said - but twice. There are only five elected representatives on the dominion executive, two of them from the North Island and three from the South Island. And there are 42 clubs in the association. Mr Greening owner/manager of Argosy Reprographics in Palmerston North, was elected to the executive again at the association's national conference, held in New Plymouth at Queen's Birthday weekend. He's been with the Manawatu Savage Club for 21 years, and has been its secretary for about eight years, a position he still holds. In 1965-66 he was president of the Manawatu Club. In 1975-76 he was president of the club's central group.”
