Description

This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 2 July, 1963. "The finals of the talent quest organised by the Manawatu Savage Club were held in the Palmerston North Opera House on Sunday night. A packed house was enthusiastic in its applause for some fine entertainment. The audience selected the winners by vote. In section A the winners were the Woodham Trio from Hastings and in section B the local group, the Flares show band, took the main honours. The evening finished with the presentation to the 12 finalists of their prizes by the Mayor (Mr G. M. Rennie). In the photograph are the winners of both sections (from the left): P. J. Townrow, M. L. Woodham, J. A. Woodham, the Mayor, Mr R. C. Fairweather (Rangitira of the Savage Club) and the Flares show band."
