Art Deco House at 250 Fitzherbert Avenue (2)

This art deco house stood on Fitzherbert Avenue, near the corner of Manawaroa Street, and has since been demolished. It was built c1945 for William (Bill) Brown, his wife Alma, and two children. He later became National MP for Palmerston North in 1960. Subsequent owners included Frank and Emma Vandenberg, who later turned the Ground Floor of the house into a restaurant called 'Emma's Place'. Today the site is occupied by a motor lodge. Photograph taken by a local photography firm. See article on the house by Tina White, in the 'Manawatu Standard' 16 December 2017.
