George Willmot New (1883-1963) began as a jockey at the age of 14 and then turned to training horses. By the 1930s he was the ownerh of stables on part of the original ‘Highden Estate’, adjacent to the Awapuni racecourse. He had many successes and retired in 1950. On the right is Kevin Ford, Jockey.
