Image of Brigadier Gentry deputising for General Freyberg in the Italian meeting with the Poles, during World War Two. The Polish Army League, founded in Palmerston North, developed a relationship with Polish soldiers through befriending the soldiers. They corresponded with them and sent parcels. The Polish soldiers reciprocated with gifts, to acknowledge their appreciation of the friendship, and New Zealand's response to the welfare of Polish children.
