ANZAC Day 2015 - Memorial Crosses

ANZAC Day Memorial Crosses which were set up in The Square for the 2015 ceremonies. Each cross represented the name of an individual upon the Cenotaph, with 507 installed altogether. The 2015 ceremony, marking the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I, was one of the largest held to date.

Rongotea war memorial along Douglas Square, Rongotea. Crosses with poppies attached are part of the Fields of Remembrance Project which ran from 2014 to 2018.

Governor General Viscount Jellicoe dedicated the memorial on 28 November 1921.

Rangiotu War Memorial

Rangiotu War Memorial

Rangiotu Memorial, in front of old Rangiotu Memorial Hall.

The memorial is a three stepped granite obelisk set on a two step concrete block. 2300 men were stationed at Rangiotu during WWI from the 3rd and 4th battalions of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. The memorial was originally cited next to the old Post Office building on a hill before being re-located after a 6.2 magnitude earthquake on 20 January 2014 toppled the peak of the monument.

Bunnythorpe War Memorial

Bunnythorpe War Memorial

Memorial located on the Bunnythorpe recreation Ground at the corner of Raymonds Street and Dixon Line. The monument sits on a concrete base, with upper levels made of Coromandel granite and Italian marble.

Inscription reads: "For King and Country.This stone was erected by residents of the Bunnythorpe District to the memory of the men who gave their lives for Justice and Freedom in the Great War 1914-1919. They never fail, who die in a great cause."

Bunnythorpe District raised £3000 for patriotic purposes, with the monuments total cost being £420. The monument was unveiled on 12 December 1920 by Lieutenant Colonel William Livingstone Hatchwell Burgess, CB, CMG, DSO.

Sanson School Memorial Gate

Sanson School Memorial Gate

Sanson School memorial gates located along State Highway 1 North on the outskirts of Sanson.

Memorial gates are marble tablets on the front and side of concrete pillars. Major General C W Melvill, General Officer commanding New Zealand Defence Forces, unveiled the memorial gate on Sunday, 31 August 1924. There are a total of 50 names on multiple tablets.
