The application prepared by the Palmerston North City Council in 2013 for the city's designation by the Pan Pacific Safe Communities Network as an International Safe Community. Palmerston North was awarded this status in March 2014 and was reaccredited by the Safe Communities Foundation New Zealand in March 2019. A 2006 history of wastewater treatment in Palmerston North by Bethany Mays and Alan Fielding, drawing upon the works of Ian Matheson and Arthur Quennell. This was published in both digital form and as an book with a shaped cover resembling an outhouse toilet. Both versions feature the same text, but the physical book includes additional and larger images.
