Joseph Poulter Leary, pictured, was the first printer in Palmerston North, and the proprietor of the “Manawatu Times’, the first newspaper to be printed in town 1875. By 1879 Leary had sold 'The Times” to J B Dungan, and carried on his printing business. J P Leary was a brother to Richard Leary, the first chemist in Palmerston North. J P Leary died in Palmerston North in 1921.
