John Nairn established his market garden business at the end of College Street, as it was then, in 1893. In all, seven glass houses and other buildings were built over the years. The family business largely grew tomatoes, cucumbers and grapes. John Nairn retired in 1928 handing over the business to his son. He died in 1943 aged 80 years. The home of John Nairn and family is seen here from College Street. It was situated about the site of the present Nairn Crescent.
