Reverend Abraham Honore with son and grandson

Abraham Honore, on the left, conducted the first religious service in the Danish language in Palmerston North, in a hut in Coleman Place 25 February 1872. From Denmark, he arrived in New Zealand in 1848 as a missionary under the direction of the North German Missionary Society. His son, also Abraham, standing, was born on Stewart Island and came to the Rangitikei when he was 12 years old. In 1881 he settled to farm at Merry Creek, in the Fitzherbert area(over the river from Palmerston North). Abraham Junior married a Miss Greenwood and had four sons.
