This photograph is of Palmerston North Boys' High School sports ground and adjacent North Street Park. It is believed to show an inter-house marching competition, which was held at the conclusion of the school's athletic sports day. Young men are seen marching while a brass band can be seen on the right side of the image.

The Mangarimu School was closed in 1938 and consolidated with the Rangiwahia School. The building was subsequently towed to Rangiwahia where it became a private residence.
