Bicycling Through The Square

Bicycling Through The Square

This photograph depicts people enjoying the facilities of The Square. In the centre of the photograph stands the Hopwood Clock Tower. It was built in 1957 from a donation from Arthur Hopwood and the clock mechanism from the old Post Office building on Main Street East. It has undergone many changes through the years, including the addition and subsequent removal of a cross on the top. During 2007 the Hopwood Clock Tower was refurbished and it is now topped with a lantern style cross. The bridge in the photograph spans the length of The Lakelet, a butterfly shaped body of water in The Square. It is also referred to as the Butterfly Lake.
